Frequently Asked Questions
To help maintain a fair and trusted marketplace, some properties require a refundable registration deposit.
This deposit allows you to register for and bid on multiple properties at once — and signals to sellers that you’re prepared to move forward if you win.
First-time buyers:
If you haven’t completed a purchase through Auction.com before, you may be required to submit a deposit for certain properties.
Your deposit is refundable, but refund timing and eligibility depend on your activity:
- If you don’t win, you can request a refund at any time.
- If your deposit remains in your Wallet for 150 days with no activity, it will be automatically returned to your original payment method.
Repeat buyers:
While deposit requirements vary by property, typically after completing a successful purchase, you won’t need to submit a new deposit for future auctions. However, if you win a property and do not complete the purchase, a new deposit may be required to participate in future auctions.
Exception for select properties:
Some properties require a deposit from all buyers, regardless of purchase history. The required amount will be shown on the Property Detail Page below the “Register to Bid” button. To participate, simply submit the deposit during registration or in advance through your Wallet.
Like all registration deposits, these funds are refundable based on your activity and transaction status.
You can begin participating immediately after completing registration and submitting your deposit. Deposits can be submitted in your Wallet today or during the registration process.
No. One deposit provides access to multiple property transactions requiring a deposit. You can register for up to four property opportunities simultaneously using the same deposit.
You can request a refund of your deposit in the Wallet section. Simply click the ‘Request Refund’ button and follow the instructions. Refund eligibility is determined based on your adherence to our Participation Terms.
Refunds are typically processed within 10 business days after your request, depending on your original payment method.
There are three ways your bid deposit can be refunded:
- After a successful purchase: If you close on a property, you can request a refund of your deposit shortly after the closing is confirmed.
- After 150 days of inactivity: If your deposit remains in your Wallet for 150 days with no bidding activity and is not tied to an active purchase, it will be automatically refunded.
- Anytime by request: You can request a refund from your Wallet at any time if you do not have any pending bids or a property in contracting or closing.
If your deposit is eligible for a refund, processing can take up to 10 business days depending on the payment method.
If you win a property but do not complete the purchase in accordance with the Participation Terms, your registration deposit may be retained. This helps ensure a fair and reliable marketplace for all participants. To participate in future auctions, you may be required to submit a new deposit. Deposit requirements may vary, and repeated failure to complete purchases may impact your eligibility to participate.
Refunds are typically issued to the original payment method (credit card or debit card) used for the deposit. If the funds have been in your Wallet for more than 180 days, you will need to provide a new credit or debit card for the refund.
